Higher education solution

Turn the case method into a repeatable practice loop.

Give learners repeated practice in ambiguous cases, follow-up questions, decision defence, revision, and reflection before the graded or professional moment.

Claim boundaries

  • ProfilEd case practice gives higher education learners repeated opportunities to make an ambiguous decision, explain it, face follow-up challenge, revise, and reflect. The resulting record supports faculty feedback and programme review.
  • ProfilEd case practice is designed around decision, rationale, challenge, revision, and reflection.
  • The resulting record can support faculty feedback and learner coaching.
  • Faculty retain responsibility for learning outcomes, review criteria, and formal assessment meaning.

Common questions

What is AI case practice?

AI case practice places a learner in a defined role, presents an ambiguous situation, requires a decision and rationale, introduces follow-up challenge, and retains revision and reflection for review.

Is this the same as giving learners an AI answer?

No. The intended workflow requires the learner to decide, explain, defend, and revise. The simulation should not reveal a model answer before the learner has done the reasoning.

Can faculty author or adapt the cases?

A pilot should be built around faculty-defined outcomes, credible evidence, constraints, follow-up logic, and review expectations. The exact authoring workflow should be confirmed during implementation.

What does faculty review?

Faculty can review the learner's initial position, rationale, assumptions, response to challenge, revision, reflection, and connection to the relevant capability goal.

Can case practice be graded?

The evidence can inform feedback or an institution-defined assessment, but ProfilEd does not assign universal academic meaning to the record. Faculty decide how it is used.

What is a sensible first pilot?

Use one established case, a bounded cohort, and a capability that learners need to demonstrate. Define success and reviewer effort before expanding.

The teaching problem

A good case reveals judgement. Most learners need more than one attempt to develop it.

Case teaching works because the learner must interpret incomplete information, decide what matters, choose a course of action, and defend it. The difficulty is repetition. Faculty time is limited, class discussion gives only some learners sustained challenge, and a final written response can hide the path that produced it.

ProfilEd turns a case into an individual or cohort practice loop. The learner takes a role, receives context and constraints, makes a decision, answers follow-up questions, encounters new information, and revises. The resulting record gives faculty and coaches material for feedback before the high-stakes assessment, presentation, placement, or workplace event.

From response to rehearsal

Keep the intellectual work of the case visible.

  • One polished answer

The final response may conceal uncertainty, abandoned options, and how the learner handled challenge.

  • Decision, defence, and revision

ProfilEd retains the sequence so feedback can address the learner's process.

  • Comments after completion

Useful, but often arrives after the learner has left the decision context.

  • Challenge inside the scenario

Follow-up questions and changing constraints ask the learner to test the reasoning while the case is still active.

The learner experience

Put the learner in the room where the decision has consequences.

AI Case Lab can frame the role, present the evidence, introduce stakeholder pressure, ask for a recommendation, and challenge the learner's assumptions without exposing a model answer first.

  • Own a decision

  • Interpret incomplete information

  • Defend assumptions and trade-offs

  • Respond when the situation changes

The case-practice loop

Six moments faculty can design and review.

  • Frame the role

Give the learner a decision responsibility, audience, objective, and relevant constraints.

  • Present the case

Provide enough evidence to reason while preserving uncertainty and competing priorities.

  • Require a decision

Ask for a recommendation, rationale, assumptions, and rejected alternatives.

  • Apply pressure

Introduce a stakeholder question, missing fact, risk, or changed constraint.

  • Invite revision

Let the learner change the recommendation or defend it with stronger reasoning.

  • Reflect and review

Capture what changed, what remains uncertain, and what the learner should practise next.

Programme uses

Use cases where judgement and communication meet.

  • Management case defence

Practise recommendations, financial and organisational trade-offs, stakeholder challenge, and executive communication.

  • Decisions with competing interests

Ask learners to weigh evidence, uncertainty, implementation limits, and consequences for different groups.

  • Escalation and communication

Rehearse how a learner identifies risk, seeks evidence, communicates a decision, and knows when to escalate.

  • Case interviews and presentations

Help learners structure ambiguous problems and explain choices under follow-up questioning.

Evidence for feedback

Review what the learner did with uncertainty.

  • Initial position

The first recommendation and the information used to support it.

  • Assumptions

What the learner treated as known, uncertain, or important.

  • Challenge response

How the learner handled a counterargument, new fact, or stakeholder pressure.

  • Revision

What changed and whether the learner can explain why.

  • Reflection

The gap or habit the learner identifies for the next practice cycle.

  • Simulation evidence is formative unless the institution defines otherwise.

ProfilEd does not make a universal claim that a case response proves workplace competence. Faculty define the learning purpose, review criteria, and any relationship to formal assessment.

Pilot design

Begin with one case learners already find difficult.

  • Choose

Select a case with a meaningful decision, credible ambiguity, and a clear place in the curriculum.

  • Author

Define the role, evidence, constraints, follow-up logic, and expected reflection.

  • Run

Use a bounded cohort and compare learner and faculty experience with the current practice workflow.

  • Review

Examine evidence quality, recurring reasoning gaps, faculty effort, accessibility, and learner feedback.
